There are three possible mesh diamond directions in relation to the building and the frame:
Economic considerations: The longer the wire rope netting mesh panels with horizontal mesh diamond direction, the more economical. Sub-structures, such as those for balustrades, are generally less costly when small individual mesh panels are avoided.
The horizontal mesh diamond direction is the most commonly used solution. Wire rope balustrade mesh is often implemented with horizontal mesh diamond direction and long continuous mesh panels, representing the most economic solution. These mesh panels can be installed adjacent to one another over any length or joined together on-site using specialized tools, creating nearly invisible seams.
The horizontal mesh diamond direction works well for both large installations and small individual panels. When wire rope netting mesh panels are joined together continuously to the sides, they create a vertical mesh diamond direction. This configuration can also be assembled on-site with proper tools. Vertical mesh diamond direction may be preferable for larger mesh widths and safety-critical applications.
High vertical mesh panels often feature vertical mesh diamonds for both visual impact and structural requirements, particularly in facade applications or vertical fall protection systems. Round geometries are typically realized using vertical mesh diamonds.
